The Palau Siren liveaboard is a 40-metre wooden yacht that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern comforts for diving adventures around Palau in the western Pacific. Built in 2012 and refitted in 2024, this dive boat accommodates up to 16 people in eight en-suite cabins, with spacious social areas, dedicated facilities for underwater photographers and access to renowned dive sites, including Blue Corner, Ulong Channel and German Channel.

Boat Interior

Handcrafted from ironwood and teak on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the Palau Siren brings traditional wooden boatbuilding together with facilities designed for comfortable liveaboard diving. Its spacious, air-conditioned saloon features comfortable seating, a cocktail bar and a large flat-screen TV, creating a welcoming space to unwind after a day exploring Palau's underwater landscapes.

The saloon also incorporates dedicated areas for preparing and charging camera and video equipment. Outside, a covered dining area provides an inviting setting for meals, with views of Palau's surrounding islands. With accommodation for a maximum of 16 people, the yacht offers room to relax between dives while enjoying the atmosphere of a traditional wooden vessel.

Cabin Types

The Palau Siren has eight double-occupancy cabins on the lower deck, accommodating up to 16 people. All cabins feature individually controlled air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms with hot water and ample storage space. Bathrobes and towels are provided for additional comfort.

Premium Twin Cabin

The yacht has six Premium Twin Cabins: four with fixed twin beds and two that can be converted from twin to double-bed configurations. Each cabin accommodates up to two people and includes an en-suite bathroom with hot water, individually controlled air conditioning and ample storage for personal belongings and diving essentials.

The flexible bedding arrangements make these cabins suitable for friends travelling together or couples who prefer the option of separate beds.

Premium Double Cabin

Two Premium Double Cabins are located at the bow of the yacht. Each accommodates up to two people and features a fixed double bed, individually controlled air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with hot water and ample storage space.

Bathrobes and towels are provided in both cabin categories, offering practical comforts for a relaxing stay between dives.

Dive Deck

The Palau Siren features a spacious dive deck designed to keep diving equipment organized and make preparations between dives convenient. Individual storage is available for smaller equipment items, while separate rinse tanks for scuba gear and camera equipment help keep essential equipment ready for the next dive. Freshwater showers on deck provide a refreshing way to rinse off after time underwater.

Two shaded, high-bottom fibreglass skiffs transport divers to dive sites, providing practical access to Palau's varied underwater environments. The yacht is equipped with two compressors and a nitrox system, with nitrox available for an additional fee.

Equipment rental is also available, including full equipment sets and individual items. Divers can arrange their equipment requirements in advance, making it easier to prepare for a diving liveaboard holiday without bringing every item from home.

Non-diving Activities

Time between dives offers opportunities to enjoy the waters around Palau at a more leisurely pace. The Palau Siren carries kayaks for exploring the surrounding waters, providing an alternative way to experience the islands beyond scuba diving.

For additional relaxation, massage services are available on board for an extra fee. Whether you prefer a gentle paddle between islands or some time unwinding after a day of diving, these options add variety to the liveaboard experience.

Onboard Facilities

The Palau Siren offers a range of facilities designed to make life on board comfortable throughout your liveaboard trip. The air-conditioned saloon features comfortable seating, a cocktail bar and a large flat-screen TV, providing a relaxing space between dives. A partially covered outdoor dining area offers scenic views of Palau's islands, while the cabins feature individually controlled air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with hot water.

Additional facilities include kayaks, onboard laundry services and massage treatments, with the latter two available for an additional fee. Wi-Fi is also available for an extra charge, allowing you to stay connected during your time on board.

Photographer Facilities

The Palau Siren is well suited to underwater photographers and videographers, with dedicated camera preparation and charging areas in the air-conditioned saloon. These facilities provide space to prepare equipment before dives and recharge batteries between excursions.

On the dive deck, a separate rinse tank is provided for camera equipment, allowing photographers to rinse their gear independently of scuba equipment. Individual storage for smaller items further helps keep essential diving accessories organized.

With dedicated preparation areas, charging facilities and a separate camera rinse tank, the Palau Siren offers practical support for photographers keen to capture Palau's underwater scenery and marine life.

Food & Drinks

Meals aboard the Palau Siren are served in a covered outdoor dining area, where the open-air setting provides views of Palau's surrounding islands. The arrangement offers a pleasant place to gather for meals while enjoying the tropical scenery.

The spacious, partially covered dining area provides shelter while retaining a connection to the outdoors, making mealtimes an opportunity to relax and take in the surroundings between dives.

The onboard cocktail bar provides another place to unwind after a day exploring Palau's underwater landscapes.

Itineraries

The Palau Siren offers diving itineraries around Palau, an island nation in the western Pacific known for its celebrated dive sites and diverse underwater landscapes. Routes include the Palau Islands, with opportunities to explore renowned locations such as Blue Corner, Ulong Channel and German Channel.

Palau Islands itineraries are available in seven-night and 10-night formats. These trips provide time to discover some of Palau's best-known dive sites, making them an appealing choice for divers seeking varied underwater experiences throughout their stay.

For those interested in timing their diving around specific marine events, the yacht also operates full moon spawning and new moon spawning itineraries. Both options are available as seven-night or 10-night trips, with the schedule organized around the respective lunar phases. These specialist itineraries offer an alternative to the standard Palau Islands routes for divers interested in spawning events.

The choice between a seven-night and 10-night itinerary allows divers to select a trip length that suits their schedule and diving plans.

When to Go

Palau offers year-round diving, with different weather patterns influencing conditions above and below the surface. The drier period generally runs from October to April, bringing relatively settled weather, while May to September tends to be wetter. Diving remains possible throughout the year, although wind and sea conditions can affect crossings between islands and access to exposed dive sites.

The Palau Siren operates Palau Islands itineraries alongside specialist full moon and new moon spawning trips. These dedicated spawning itineraries are scheduled around lunar phases, giving divers the opportunity to plan their trip around specific marine events. Both seven-night and 10-night options are available, depending on the departure schedule.

When choosing a departure, consider whether you prefer a general exploration of Palau's renowned dive sites or a specialist itinerary centred on spawning activity. As conditions and marine-life encounters vary throughout the year, checking the scheduled route and travel dates will help you choose the experience that best suits your interests.

Frequently Asked Questions About Palau Siren

What is a typical diving schedule?

The diving schedule will focus on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rock Islands Southern Lagoon Complex with a day devoted to Peleliu Island in the south. The Rock Islands include narrow channels and tidal currents and are best suited for ski tenders. Due to the UNESCO status of the lagoon, liveaboards such as Palau Siren utilise specific mooring areas and anchor points. The boat's movement within the lagoon is limited. Transfers to dive sites are made via two fiberglass tenders. Entries by giant stride, backward-roll ,or seated entry. Exits are via ladders on the tenders. Local regulations require guided dives and some sites with strong currents or depth cannot be accessed by inexperienced divers

What's special about the spawning itinerary?

During Full Moon trips, tens of thousands of red snappers aggregate to spawn. They change color and are joined by predators such as bull sharks and oceanic blacktip sharks. New Moon dives present hundreds of bumphead parrotfish aggregating for their mating displays, including very loud head-butting contests and brilliant color changes. Small groups of guests are transported to view these natural events without disturbing them

What are the requirements to join spawning trips?

For a spawning trip, divers need to have at least 50 logged dives and some experience in strong currents. It is highly recommended that they are PADI Advanced Open Water certified or equivalent. They must have night diving experience if they want to participate in a spawning or blackwater dive. Guests who cannot fulfill the requirements or whom the crew sees unfit may be excluded from certain dives. Advanced Open Water certification cannot be completed onboard though PADI Deep Adventure Dives for diving beyond 18 meters can be arranged for Open Water Divers

What is blackwater diving, and who can participate?

Blackwater diving consists of night dives that are well away from reefs and allow divers to see the vertical migration of deep-sea creatures, such as larval fish and cephalopods. This is a very special activity that is sometimes available on spawning itineraries, although it cannot be guaranteed. All divers must have diving insurance that covers the cost of emergency evacuation and recompression chamber.
Highlights This tour focuses on the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dive sites include Malakal Harbour, Ulong Island, Ngemelis Island, the German Channel, and Peleliu Island. Specific dive sites depending on conditions, diver experience, and the captain's discretion. Site selection is based on safety and environmental considerations, with alternative sites available when conditions require

What other activities are offered?

Guests enjoy the Rock Islands speedboat tour already included in the price. A stop is made at major features like "The Arch", while the views of an elephant- and whale-shaped islands are truly spectacular. Visits to Jellyfish Lake are temporarily banned due to the depletion of the population, for which the on-board fees are adjusted.

WWII land excursion on Peleliu Island: This is an optional excursion that includes a two-hour guided tour of historic battle remnants and can be booked through the cruise director

Perfect Service and really new experiences
I was the first time in Palau, the weather was awful. But this was the only discomfort. The service on board and dive safety and support were excellent. The best thing for me was to leave my “comfort zone” of diving: 1. The current was stronger I expected, fish were more and larger I have seen in my 350 dives (Raja, Red Sea, South Africa, Maledives…) before 2. Guided Blackwater Diving was an extraordinary and astonishing experience 3. To watch thousands of Bullhead Parrotfish while spawning was also an unique adventure.

One of our best liveaboard experiences ever.
This was our 7th liveaboard and it did not disappoint. The crew were amazing. We had a couple of issues to sort out in our cabin and they took care of them right away. Eric and Kailey do an amazing job as co Cruise Directors and Eric doubled as our dive guide. The diving was fabulous. The entire experience was terrific. It was also the only liveaboard where we did a safety drill - a welcome change!!
