Ambai Liveaboard, Indonesia
4.8Excellent1 verified reviewCrafted with the elegance of traditional Indonesian craftsmanship, the Ambai liveaboard offers an exceptional gateway to the world’s most pristine waters in Indonesia. This 32-meter wooden vessel, traditionally built from ironwood and tropical hardwoods, has been a staple of excellence since it began operations in 2012. Whether you are navigating the biodiversity hotspot of Raja Ampat or exploring the volcanic wonders of Halmahera, a liveaboard trip on the MV Ambai liveaboard Indonesia blends adventurous exploration with the personalized service expected of a high-end dive boat.
Boat Interior
The heart of the Ambai Indonesia liveaboard is its air-conditioned restaurant on the main deck, where divers gather to share stories of great diving. This social hub features a large flat-screen monitor, perfect for reviewing captivating macro critters captured throughout the day. When it is time for relaxation in between dives, guests can retreat to the indoor lounge or enjoy the seaview from the shadow deck areas. For those who prefer the tropical breeze, the outdoor dining and seating areas provide a picturesque setting for every meal.
Dive Deck
Designed by divers for divers, the Ambai liveaboard features a large, functional dive deck at the rear of the main deck. This area provides easy and direct access to the dive platform, which is capable of accommodating all three dive tenders simultaneously for efficient departures. To ensure a seamless diving experience, the crew handles the heavy lifting, including the loading and unloading of your diving gear. After surfacing, guests can rinse off with fresh water showers located right on the deck.
Safety
Safety is paramount aboard the MV Ambai liveaboard, which is equipped with modern nautical and emergency technology. The vessel's safety specifications include radar, radio communication, and a satellite phone for offshore connectivity. For emergency preparedness, the boat carries life vests, emergency rafts, oxygen, and first aid kits. The interior is further protected by smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
Non-diving Activities
A luxury diving holiday on the Ambai doesn't have to be all about the underwater world. Between sailing sessions, guests can enjoy land excursions to explore local islands and beautiful shallow reefs via snorkel. Onboard entertainment includes a selection of board games and a library. For ultimate relaxation, massage services are available to help you unwind after a day of adventure.
Itineraries
The Ambai schedule covers Indonesia’s most coveted destinations. Itineraries typically range from 10 to 12 nights, exploring the lush beautiful shallow reefs of Raja Ampat, the unique biodiversity of Halmahera, and the sea mounts of Triton Bay. Guests can expect a mix of drift dives, encounters with reef sharks, and visits to mystical wrecks.
When to Go
The Ambai operates year-round, following the best seasonal conditions across Indonesia. Trips to Raja Ampat are popular during the early months of the year, such as April, while Halmahera and Lembeh itineraries are frequently scheduled between May and September to ensure guests experience the best dive sites in optimal weather.
Boat for Photographers
The Ambai is a premier choice for the underwater photographer. It features a dedicated indoor camera room specifically designed for the maintenance and preparation of delicate gear. This room includes spacious charging stations and a large table for assembly. Additionally, the restaurant’s screen allows for the immediate presentation of your day's captures and footage.
