Hanifaru Lagoon is a dive site located in Baa Atoll in the Maldives and is a part of a biosphere reserve and a protected marine area. This lagoon is accompanied by a vegetated sand cay and a hard coral reef with shallow waters and light currents.

When to go

It is possible to dive at Hanifaru Lagoon year-round, but the best time is the dry season from December to May. The southwest monsoon comes with rain and wind between June and November. The average air temperature is 28-30C/82-86F, and the water temperature averages 26-29C/79-84F.

What to see

The highlight of this dive site is the opportunity to see a large number of manta rays at one time, sometimes with whale sharks joining them. Other species include sea turtles, barracudas, snapper, jacks, and triggerfish.
