Portsea Pier is a dive site close to Melbourne that offers a relaxing shallow dive that is 300m/984ft in length. There is enough light under the pier to see the sandy bottom and patches of sea grass. There is beautiful kelp at the end of this pier. This spot is popular with night divers and those who appreciate macro photography.

When to go

Diving is at its best at Portsea Pier from November to March, when it is warmer and the visibility is better. The sea temperatures range from 14C/57F in winter to 23C/73F during summer.

What to see

The marine life at Portsea Pier includes various types of pufferfish, weedy sea dragons, squid, and banjo sharks. Other species include crabs, starfish, snapper, surgeonfish, and barracudas.
