The HMAS Perth was a part of an Australian missile destroyer convoy that served in the Vietnam War during the 1960s. The ship was sunk in 2001. The total length of the vessel is 134m/440ft, and a mast with the impressive height of 43m/141ft still rises above the surface. The ship’s weaponry is largely intact. Divers can penetrate the ship at several points and even visit the ship’s bridge with an intact captain’s chair.
When To Go Diving
The best diving conditions at HMAS Perth wreck are from November to March. The sea water temperatures range from 16-23C/61-73F. The air temperature reaches 24C/75F during the summer months.
What to see
The HMAS Perth wreck attracts a wide range of invertebrates such as sponges, oysters, and mussels. Samson fish, jewfish, and large kingfish are often spotted here as well.
