Julian Rocks is located in the Cape Byron Marine Park in the north part of New South Wales in Australia. It is a unique dive site, where divers can discover species from both the Great Barrier Reef and the deep Southern Ocean. Here the bottom drops to a narrow swim-through with two vertical walls on the sides.
When To Go Diving
It is possible to dive at Julian Rocks year-round, but there is less rain and warmer water from September to January. The average sea temperature at that time is 26C/79F. It is possible to hear the songs of humpback whales from May to September.
What to see
The waters of Julian Rocks have three species of sea turtles, wobbegongs, more than 400 types of fish, and a variety of rays, including huge mantas. Some of the species are lionfish, moray eels, giant grouper, sweetlips, and cod.
