Sámara Reef is a coastal Pacific site with a gentler profile than Costa Rica’s remote offshore islands. It is suited to relaxed reef exploration, with volcanic rock, sand patches, and fish life close to the Nicoya Peninsula.

What to see

Divers may see pufferfish, parrotfish, wrasse, grunts, snappers, rays, moray eels, turtles, and small crustaceans. Schools of fish may gather around rock ledges.

When To Go Diving

December to May is usually the best coastal season, with drier weather and calmer seas. Water is commonly around 26–29°C, though visibility can be more variable than at offshore islands.
