Ryan’s Ravine is located on the east side of Christmas Island in Australia, and is famous for a few vertical wall reefs. It is a short dive site with sheer drop-offs and some interesting overhangs covered by whips and fans.

When to go

It is possible to dive at Ryan’s Ravine year-round, although there are monsoons and tropical cyclones from December to April. February and March are the wettest months with the roughest sea conditions. The water temperature averages 24-28C/75-82F.

What to see

Ryan’s Ravine is popular for the plentiful sea turtles and reef sharks passing by divers. Other interesting species include batfish, grouper, eels, snapper, and neon-colored angelfish. There are both soft and hard corals of various types.
