The SS Mauna Loa was an American steam-powered cargo ship used in World War II. On February 19, 1942 the ship sank in Darwin, Australia during a Japanese bomb attack. This site is suitable for advanced divers and can only be reached by boat. There aren’t that many fish species at this site, but diving at the SS Mauna Loa is exciting for history buffs, who will enjoy the shipwreck.
What to see
The remains of the Mauna Loa are now home to different species of small fish and are visited by curious divers. Divers may encounter barramundi, Saratogas, and jewfish.
