Steve’s Bommie is an isolated, submerged pinnacle located close to Port Douglas Cairns in Australia. There is a memorial plaque for Steve (the free diver after whom the site is named) at the bottom of the dive site, at 25m/82ft. This spot also has many crevices, cracks, and a huge bommie to explore.

When To Go Diving

It is possible to dive at Steve’s Bommie year-round, with the best visibility from September to November. The water temperature ranges between 22-29C/72-84F. The minke whale season is in June and July.

What to see

Steve’s Bommie is full of nudibranchs, pipefish, flatworms, goatfish, trevallies, fusiliers, and 5 types of anemonefish. The larger species include wobbegongs, whitetip sharks, occasional minke whales, and barracudas.
