Mudjimba Island
Mudjimba Island is located on the Sunshine coast east of Mudjimba, between Noosa and Mooloolaba. The island is also known as “Old Woman Island”, a name which originates from legends about Aboriginal women living on the island until old age. The Mudjimba Island dive site is popular with divers of all levels. Most of them prefer to take cameras to take photos of the charming marine species inhabiting the coral reefs.
When To Go Diving
The climate is subtropical in Mooloolaba. Summer (December to February) is warm, with an average temperature of 30C/86F. Winters (June to August) are mild, with an average temperature of 20C/68F.
What to see
Coral carpets start at 2m/7ft and go along the shore. Gullies, ledges, outcroppings, bommies, and caverns house sea sponges and sea anemones. Divers notice schools of tropical fish, and during almost every dive at this site, divers see butterflyfish, lionfish, moray eels, wrasses, morwongs, surgeonfish, pufferfish, and damselfish.
