The Melissa’s Garden dive site is located in between the small Jet Fam Islands, northwest of the bigger island of Batanta. The dive site features an oval-shaped reef with a flat top where extended areas of coral gardens impress divers with their intense colors and beautiful forms. Bright soft-coral outcrops, sponges, and masses of crinoids are densely scattered between impressive hard-coral formations, where a large array of small marine creatures found their shelters. Melissa’s Garden is a great place for macro photography lovers.

When to go

This dive site is good for diving at any time of the year, because the tropical climate and the costant water temperature of 29C/84F create perfect conditions for year-round diving.

What to see

Divers will see an amazing variety of hard and soft corals, sponges, crinoids, nudibranchs, and anemones, all in so many colors and forms that divers really will not know what to photograph. There are pygmy seahorses, angelfish, and lionfish, and in deeper waters, sea snakes, rabbitfish, and wobbegong sharks are also seen.
