All about Barco del Cano dive site
Barco del Caño is one of the named Caño Island dive sites, though the name can be misleading because it is not always described as an intact wreck. It is better understood as a rocky reef site with an evocative “sunken boat” name, set within one of Costa Rica’s best-known marine reserves.
What to see
Whitetip reef sharks, snappers, grunts, jacks, moray eels, rays, turtles, and schooling fish may be seen. The rocky structure can also shelter small reef creatures and camouflaged scorpionfish.
When To Go Diving
Caño Island is usually strongest from December to May, with warmer, clearer water and calmer boat conditions. Water is generally around 26–29°C, with visibility often good but variable after rain or swell.
