Tumakohua Pass, in southern Fakarava, is famous for its dense grey reef shark population and preserved reef scenery. It has a powerful, almost cinematic character, especially when divers drift through the pass with the current.

Grey reef sharks in large numbers, groupers, barracuda, jacks, Napoleon wrasse, snappers, reef fish, and healthy coral formations may be seen.

When To Go Diving

May to October is usually excellent, while June and July can be notable for grouper spawning activity. Incoming tide is often preferred for visibility.
