The tiny island of Mezanj, located near Dugi Otok island, offers divers an interesting opportunity to explore a huge underwater cave and some smaller caverns. The entrance to the cave can be found at the depth of around 10m/33ft. The cave, which looks like a spacious chamber, has a steep slope at the back of it that goes down to 40m/131ft. There is a large anchor that divers will see on the bottom of the chamber. After exploring the chamber and the steep drop off, divers will exit through the ceiling opening that will lead them to a plateau, which is at around 6m/20ft deep.

When To Go Diving

Diving is possible all year round, however, the best time to dive at Mezanj Island is from May to September when the average water temperature is 25C/77F. In winter the water temperature drops to chilly 12C/53F.

What to see

Marine life inside the cave is less abundant than in the crevices along its walls. The walls are covered in beautiful gorgonians and colorful sponges and are home to lobsters, scorpionfish, goatfish, red mullet and other marine species.
