What to see
The Kodiak Queen offers a jarring combination of history and artistry beneath the waves. There is a giant Kraken sculpture, its twisting tentacles wrapping around the stern and wheelhouse, now teeming with coral and sponge growth. Schools of tropical fish inhabit the deck and interior of the ship, while large stingrays are often seen gliding gracefully around the wreck. Divers might also see turtles, sharks, and smaller life that call the artificial reef home. The dramatic presence of the Kraken, combined with the historical significance of the ship and its vibrant marine ecosystem, makes this a dive site to remember
When to go diving in Kodiak Queen
The warm waters of the British Virgin Islands make the Kodiak Queen Wreck a year-round dive. The best time is in the dry season, from November to May, when visibility is usually at its best, and the conditions are generally flat. Water temperatures range from 78°F (26°C) to 84°F (29°C), thus comfortable for divers without heavy exposure suits.
Although the wet season, from June to October, features occasional rain and the possibility of hurricanes, diving is still possible during this period, and the waters often remain clear between storms. Those looking to avoid crowds will find the shoulder months of late spring and early autumn quieter, yet still with excellent diving
