Wreck

Akitsushima Wreck is located around Coron and features a Japanese 118m/387ft long seaplane carrier that sunk in 1944. This wreck has suffered a major damage and some of its parts lay a short distance away. Penetrating is too dangerous and therefore, not allowed. Only the engine room with its 4 engines and stern can be entered.

When To Go Diving

The best time to dive Akitsushima Wreck is from January till June, though it may be possible to dive here during other time. The air temperature is generally around 27-30C/89-98F, while the water ranges between 26-28C/85-92F.

What to see

One of the antiaircraft guns can still be seen. This wreck serves as a hiding place for huge groupers, batfish, barracudas, yellow fin tunas and snappers. Many parts of Akitsushima are covered with colorful corals of various types as well as gorgonians, purple fans and sponges. Smaller critters and bright tropical fish inhabit this dive site as well.
