About scuba diving in Venezuela

Venezuela is a tropical country located in South America that boasts the longest coastline in the Caribbean. Venezuela has countless beaches, islands, and cays, and offers great scuba diving activities. Scuba diving in Venezuela is a delight for divers of all ability levels. It is possible to dive and snorkel around most of the long coastline and the more than 70 islands that Venezuela has in the Caribbean Sea. Los Roques Archipelago National Park is Venezuela's scuba diving and snorkeling mecca with hundreds of little islands and reefs, white sand beaches, turquoise waters and an abundant marine life. Divers can discover caves and vertical walls full of sponges, huge gorgonias, barracudas, squirrel fish, snappers, turtles, manta rays and sharks. In Las Aves, divers can dive to shipwrecks dating back to the colonial times. Mochima National Park is a very good place for snorkeling and diving in its quartz-walled caves and walls full of crabs, angelfish, manta rays and reef fish. Margarita, Venezuela's biggest island, is full of corals, sea fans, barracudas, parrotfish, moray eels, oysters. Worth visiting dive sites include Piedra de la guasa, Boca del Medio, Boca de Cote, Chichiriviche de la costa, Cubagua, Madrisqui, La Blanquilla, Los Testigos.

When to go to Venezuela

Venezuela has good scuba diving conditions year-round with water temperatures ranging from 69F/21C in winter to 80F/27C in summer. The warmest water temperatures are in the south of the country. The average air temperature is about 80F/27C throughout the year. Water visibility averages around 98ft/30m. There can be some strong currents around Los Roques. The country has a wet and dry season with most rain falling from May/June to October/November.
