Thetford Reef is a classic Cairns outer-reef site with coral gardens, bommies, and reef fish activity. It offers approachable Great Barrier Reef diving, often suited to divers who want colour, manageable depth, and variety.
What to see
Hard corals, soft corals, parrotfish, fusiliers, clownfish, reef sharks, turtles, and rays may be seen. Coral bommies often hold macro life and small schooling fish.
When To Go Diving
June to November generally gives stronger visibility, while summer brings warmer water and more humid weather. Expect around 24–29°C, with visibility dependent on wind and recent rain.
