The city is located at the beginning of the Riviera Maya, on the Caribbean. Cancun International airport is located in 92km/57mi from it. Diving in the wonderful freshwater cenotes in Playa del Carmen is an unforgettable experience. Another marvelous option is to explore the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest in the Atlantic Ocean, with an amazing variety of marine life in myriad colors and shapes. Among the great dive sites here are Pit Cenote, Cenote Dos Ojos, Kukulkan Cenote, Chac Mool Cenote, Tajma Ha Cenote, Sabalos, Tortugas, Los Arcos, Pared Verde, Moc-Che Deep, Moc-Che Shallow, Chun-Zumbul and Jardines. For experienced divers, there is also an interesting dive site: the artificially flooded fishing boat Mama Viña (the current in this area is strong and requires a certain skill).
