Garuae Pass, in northern Fakarava, is the largest pass in the Tuamotus and one of French Polynesia’s standout drift dives. It is broad, powerful, and fish-rich, with a strong open-ocean atmosphere.
What to see
Grey reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, groupers, barracuda, jacks, Napoleon wrasse, moray eels, and dense reef fish may be seen.
When To Go Diving
May to October is usually excellent for visibility, and incoming tide is generally preferred. This is a current-aware dive, often better suited to experienced divers.
