Located off San Benedicto Island, El Boiler is a submerged volcanic pinnacle and former hydrothermal vent that rises from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Its circular structure creates natural amphitheatre-like walls, where warm, mineral-rich water once bubbled to the surface. Today, it remains one of the most exhilarating dive sites in the world, a place where marine encounters feel deeply personal. Divers often descend to find themselves surrounded by mantas looping gracefully in the current, sharks gliding through the blue, and dolphins weaving between them. The geology of the site combines rocky ledges and soft coral growth, providing both drama and texture to every dive.
El Boiler epitomizes Socorro diving: raw, remote, and unforgettable. Whether you’re here aboard a liveaboard expedition or joining a longer Revillagigedo Islands itinerary, each descent promises that rare sense of privilege, sharing the ocean with some of its most magnificent and intelligent creatures

What to see
El Boiler is renowned for its giant Pacific manta rays (Mobula birostris), which are famously interactive and unafraid of divers. These gentle giants often circle and hover directly overhead, seeming to revel in the divers’ bubbles. The site also attracts hammerhead, Galapagos, and silvertip sharks, as well as pods of playful bottlenose dolphins that occasionally join in the spectacle. Schools of jacks and tuna dart through the water column, while reef fish shimmer in the sunlight filtering through the deep blue. Every dive feels like an underwater ballet of large marine life against a dramatic volcanic backdrop
When To Go Diving
Water temperature
The best time to dive El Boiler is between November and May, when the Revillagigedo Archipelago enjoys calm seas, clear skies, and the highest marine activity. Water temperatures range from 28°C (82°F) in November to 20°C (68°F) by May, bringing a dynamic mix of tropical and pelagic species. Visibility often exceeds 30 metres (100 feet) on clear days, though occasional plankton blooms, especially in spring, can slightly reduce it. These nutrient-rich waters, however, are what attract the mantas, dolphins, and sharks that make this site world-famous
