The Chikuzen Wreck is one of the BVI’s more adventurous offshore wreck dives, resting in open water between Tortola and Anegada. Its isolated position gives the site a wilder mood than many sheltered island reefs, with the wreck acting as a magnet for fish life.
What to see
Divers may see the wreck structure, schooling jacks, barracuda, snappers, grunts, spadefish, reef sharks, eagle rays, and large fish gathering around the hull. Coral and sponge growth add colour to the metal surfaces.
When To Go Diving
Best conditions are usually from December to May, when seas are generally calmer and visibility can reach around 18–30 metres. Water is typically around 26–29°C, though this site is more weather-dependent because of its open-water location.
