When to go to Ranong

Weather in Ranong is marked by a long rainy period, which lasts for 8 months starting in May. A tropical monsoon climate is common for Ranong.

The best time to dive is from the end of October until May.

What to see

In the waters of Ranong, divers can observe over 200 species of corals and 1,000 species of fish. The fringing reefs, limestone boulders, pinnacles, swim-throughs, passages, ledges, massifs, caves, and caverns house over 500 species of soft and hard corals. Divers can spot mantas, eagle rays, crabs, feather stars, angelfish, moray eels, snapper, and frogfish while diving in Ranong. Nurse sharks, potato cod, and leopard sharks can be found in deeper areas.

Scuba diving in Ranong

Ranong is the capital city of the Ranong Province, Ranong Airport is located there. The town borders Myanmar and the Indian Ocean. Ranong is famous for being the major fishing and trading port in the province, and it is located in the Andaman Sea. The pristine nature of the destination makes it unique and charming. Most of the land is covered with forests and jungles. The beautiful terrain, wonderful beaches, and clear water caused several natural parks to be created in the area. Ranong makes all the tourists feel at home. In the calm atmosphere of Ranong, tourists usually forget that another world exists outside the borders of Ranong. The city has comfortable conditions for diving, and lots of dive sites to explore. The depths are up to 40m/131ft.

Some of the sites worth visiting are the Surin Islands with its famous Richelieu Rock, the Similans, Koh Tachai, Koh Bon. There are also some interesting dive sites at the Mergui Archipelago: Western Rocky Island, Shark cave,  Fan Forest Pinnacle, Rocky 1, High Rock, North Twin Plateau, and North Twin Island.
