When to go to Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen's best diving season is considered to be from May to October. December is the start of rainy season that lasts until February. Also severe dust storms are to be expected in March, and weaker dust storms are typical between October and December. In the coldest month (January), the air temperature is around 16C/60F, and in the warmest month (August), the air temperature is about 25C/77F. The minimum water temperature is about 18C/64F in February and the maximum is about 25C/77F in August. The visibility is excellent, often being more than 30m/98ft.


What to see

Marine life is abundant, including octopus, cuttlefish, angel sharks, large butterfly rays and small torpedo rays, shrimp, damselfish, parrotfish, red scorpionfish and crabs.

Scuba diving in Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen, located on the east coast of Lanzarote Island, in 27 km from Lanzarote Airport. It is the most popular tourist place in Lanzarote and over 1 million of the island's visitors choose this town as their destination every year. It has a full range of services: casinos, great shopping, restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs, as well as fine beaches (Grande Beach, Los Pocillos, and Matagorda). The main street, Avenida Playas, extends some 7km/4mi along the coast with beaches on one side and bars, shopping centers, restaurants, and other tourist attractions on the other. Tourists will also enjoy the carnival, festivals, and tennis championships, that are held here every year. Puerto del Carmen has amazing diving and a large number of dive centers. There are about 10 dive sites in the area, and most of them are wall dives, with depths ranging from 18-35m/59-114ft. There are 7 wrecks in total to explore while diving in the area.
