Ilhéu da Vila, off Santa Maria in the Azores, is a scenic island reef with volcanic rock, clear water, and a strong Atlantic island feel. It has both sheltered and more exposed sections depending on conditions.
What to see
Jacks, barracuda, groupers, wrasse, parrotfish, moray eels, octopus, rays, nudibranchs, and volcanic reef life may be seen.
When To Go Diving
Best from June to October, especially in late summer when water is warmest. Visibility is often very good, commonly 20–30 metres or more.
