Scuba diving in Safaga
Safaga is a port town on the Red Sea, 53km/32.9mi south of Hurghada, where closest airport is located. It is one of the oldest ports on the Red Sea. After Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, this is the next most popular diving destination in Egypt. Dive sites here are mostly walls, coral gardens and some very famous wrecks.
Some of the best sites being: Panorama, Abu Kafan (a beautiful reef plateau with a couple of pinnacles and large coral blocks), Shaab Sheer East (a crescent-shaped reef that shelters the Al Kahfain wreck), Coral Garden South Reef, Middle Reef, Ras Abu Soma, Shaab Hamdalla, and, of course, the infamous Salem Express Wreck.
