Perfect visibility
Darwin’s Arch changed shape in May 2021, when the famous bridge-like formation collapsed and left two pillars standing offshore. Underwater, the appeal remains the same: a dramatic open-water backdrop and the feeling that anything could slide out of the blue
What to see
The site is strongly associated with shark action, including scalloped hammerhead sharks and galápagos sharks, with chances of whale sharks in the June–October window. In the flow of current, rays such as manta rays and eagle rays are also commonly mentioned around Darwin Island’s main sites
When To Go Diving
Water temperature for Galápagos diving is commonly summarized as 16–28°C across the year, depending on currents and region. Sources frequently describe visibility in a broad range; for Darwin’s Arch, about 10–30 m is often quoted. Many divers target June to October for whale shark season in the far north, while December to May is commonly noted for warmer water and calmer seas
