About scuba diving in Sudan

Sudan has wonderful natural potential. It is one of the richest countries in Africa in landscape, birds, and wildlife, which stimulates investments in tourism. There are various tourist attractions, such as the pyramids of Meroë, historical museum, Dinder National Park, and Jebel Marra. Scuba dive in Sudan and feel a new world open to you. Diving in Sudan is a chance to explore wonderful underwater life. The country is not overcrowded with tourists, but scuba diving is very popular because of the colorful, varied marine life. Sudan usually draws more skilled divers and those who have been to the Red Sea before. Some sites are challenging for divers to penetrate wrecks, and may have depths that are a little hard for beginners. Sudan has lots of pelagic species. There are over 20 sites in Sudan. Some of them are the Umbria wreck, Sha’ab Rumi, Angarosh, Sanganeb, the Blue Belt wreck, Precontinent II, and Dahrat Abid.

When to go to Sudan

Divers can dive in Sudan year-round. June to September is the hottest time, when the water and air temperatures are 31-33C/78-91F. December to March has the coolest water, varying from 24-27C/75-80F. Visibility is good, around 10-35m/33-115ft. The dry season (November to June) is the dry season, which has better visibility than the rainy season (May to October). The season for hammerhead sharks is January to April, and manta rays appear from August to October. Currents are usually mild, but can occasionally be strong. The rich and varied marine life includes numerous beautiful creatures such as schools of hammerhead sharks, gray reef sharks, silvertip sharks, manta rays, spiny fish, butterflyfish, and schools of trevallies, barracudas, and miniature redfish. Divers will be inspired with incredible caves, wrecks, drop-offs, and even aircraft bombs at some sites.
