PNG Solomons Trip

It was my second trip in the TAKA. It is a basic boat but it suits me. Cabin to myself. Showers and toilets that worked. The food had improved greatly since my first trip and we were well catered for. The staff are friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the diving on this trip was a little disappointing.

Great to have a quality option in the Solomon Islands

4th trip to Solomon's and by far the best. Hesitant to book Master due to poor record with Siren Fleet but was very pleasantly surprised at the great trip. Adam and Carmen are the perfect Host/Manager pair and took us to awesome sites. In today's competitve world, do not understand rooms without ensuite facilities but it is clearly noted on the website. We had a wonderful room WITH ensuite. Dive deck tight but serviceable. Be prepared for wet landings via RIBS. Excellent mix of reefs, walls and WWII wrecks. Excellent food with great attention to special diets. Staff is warm, friendly, speak American and provide special attention throughout. Taka is a hardy boat but well appointed and feels safe in high seas. Would choose Master again, depending on room choices. This website has insufficient choices for number of logged dives -- currently 2,450 including 40+ live aboard trips.

Why go to the Solomon Islands

Due to their remote location Solomons have some of the most unspoiled dive sites. Scuba divers will find here almost all diving options they can imagine from WWII wrecks to macro. And what's important - diving is available all year round. 



What can you see at Solomons?



Diving in the Solomons features incredible pristine reefs and walls made of a variety of colorful soft and hard corals. About 500 coral species form Islands' reefs. This region is aslo great for macro diving. A range of nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, mandarin fish are not so rare to find.

Routes of migration of dolphins, manta rays, reef sharks and turtles cross waters of the Solomon Islands.



Popular dive sites



Guadalcanal with world-class wrecks, most of them can be reached from the shore. Tulagi with USS Minneapolis - heavy cruiser destroyed in 1942. Mary Island is famous for a great number of hard corals. Caves, drop-offs and tunnels of Twin Tunnels. 



Diving Conditions



Diving in the Solomons features mild currents in general. The tropical weathers make diving available all year round. Water temperature fluctuates between 28-30 C (80-86 F) throughout the year. It can be rainy in January and February. 

You will need a 3-5 mm wetsuit. Please consider that you might spend a lot of time in the water, maybe a thicker suit will be better

The Solomon Islands for underwater photographers

You will definitely appreciate good visibility and pristine corals of the Solomons if you are a marine photographer. Don't forget to pack your macro lenses, this destination is a true paradise for macro. Ghost piper fish, pygmy seahorses, mandarin fish, leaf scorpionfish. Of course, a wide angle will be used a lot to shoot wrecks and large schools of fish
