Point Loma Kelp Forest
The Point Loma Kelp Beds is a striking dive site near Californian San Diego. Divers have a unique opportunity to explore dense kelp forests while diving in the Kelp Beds. The reef bottom is not sandy and easily accessible. The rock formations and multiple pinnacles create great conditions for the growth of different kelp types – giant, bullwhip, feather and palm kelps. Scuba diving in the spot is perfect for making colorful underwater photos.
When To Go Diving
Climate in San Diego is mild and temperate. The period from June to Septemver is the most advisable for diving in the Point Loma Kelp Beds. Usual air and water temperatures of 22-26C/70-80F. The cold and wet period lasts from December to March and is characterized by verage air and water temperatures are of 13-18C/55-65F.
What to see
The kelp habitat is a perfect shelter for the variety of tiny marine species. Diving in the Point Loma Kelp Beds let explorers watch such sea representatives as shrimps, crabs, snails, starfish, nudibranchs, lobsters, garibaldi and mackarel. Divers can also admire sea cucumbers and sea anemones.
