All about Place of Refuge dive site

Place of Refuge, also known around Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau on Hawaiʻi Island, is a clear-water Kona reef site with lava shelves, coral heads, and excellent shore-dive appeal. It has a calm, culturally significant coastal setting above water and rich reef life below.

What to see

Coral gardens, reef fish, yellow tangs, butterflyfish, turtles, moray eels, octopus, nudibranchs, dolphins in the wider bay area, and small reef creatures may be seen.

When To Go Diving

Best in calm Kona conditions, often May to October, though the site can be diveable year-round. Water is generally around 24–28°C, with visibility often 20–30 metres.
