When to go to Majahual

Scuba diving in Majahual is possible all year-round. Average air temperature varies from 21-29C/69-84F. Average water temperature in winter is about 77F/25C and in summer about 86F/30C. Hurricane season is from May to November with the possibility of intense cyclones. 

 

What to see

Scuba diving here gives an opportunity to see marine species as eagle rays, snappers, stingrays, groupers, barracudas, nurse sharks, lobsters, green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, as well as colorful coral dwelers.

 

Scuba diving in Majahual

Majahual is a small village on the southeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the heart of Costa Maya. The closest international airport is in Cancun that is located in 339 km. Diving in Majahual is well known for its unique reef system and the wide variety of corals and animals living there. When the water temperature drops a few degrees in winter, sharks and dolphins swim closer to the surface of water.

 

Most popular dive sites

There are about 15 dive sites in the Majahual area, among them Faro Viejo, Jardín, Punta Río Bermejo, Llamaradas, Punta Tam and Balamku. Schools of flying fish, turtles and stingrays can often be seen at the Escalones, which is considered to be one of the most interesting dive sites.
