LIVEABOARD DIVING IN Portsmouth

Portsmouth is the second largest town in Dominica and was its first capital. It lies on the Indian River on Dominica's northwest coast, in Saint John Parish. Cabrits National Park is located on a peninsula to the north of town. Also Portsmouth has its own sea port in Prince Rupert Bay. Portsmouth is a nice place for scuba diving. The underwater terrain is unique and diverse, providing dive sites suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to the very experienced. The area is full of gorgeous multi-colored hard and soft coral, an abundance of reef fish and fascinating marine critters such as seahorses and frogfish. In Portsmouth there are a lot of dive sites. The Cabrits dive site for novice divers, which consists of three wonderful reefs. Cabrits South and West are both beautiful reefs dropping off sharply to a sandy bottom at 47m/154ft and
34m/112ft respectively, and a third site further to the south drops off to below 57m/187ft. There are medium currents, which allow performing an enjoyable drift dive. Barrel sponges and schools of Creole fish can be spotted there. Five Finger Rock is a site, which is recommended for advanced divers. It has a depth of 5-30m/15-98ft. It is a huge boulder, which careened off the island of Dominica thousands of years ago and is home to a wide variety of sea life such as squid, squirrelfish, angelfish, eagle ray and flounder. It is part of Cabrits Marine Park. Another interesting dive sites such as Cottage Point, Douglas Point, Hot Sophia, Pinard, Point Break, Pointe Ronde and the Craters, Shark's Mouth and Toucari Bay are for intermediate divers.
