Dominica is an island nation in the Lesser Antilles region of the Caribbean Sea. It is located south-southeast of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique. The capital is Roseau, which is located on the leeward side of the island. Dominica is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles and it is known for its many island events and festivals. There are two airports in Dominica, Melville Hall (DOM) and Canefield (DCF). Dominica, also known as "The Nature Island of the Caribbean" due to its spectacular, lush, and varied flora and fauna, which are protected by an extensive natural park system. The island has several protected areas, including Cabrits National Park, as well as 365 rivers. There are large tropical forests, including one which is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites, hundreds of streams, coastlines and coral reefs. Dominica is one of the top dive destinations in the world. It is home to sperm whales, which live in this area year round, spinner dolphins, pantropical spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, killer whales, false killer whales, pygmy sperm whales, dwarf sperm whales, Risso's dolphins, common dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins, humpback whales and Bryde's whales. The best time to see dolphins and pilot whales is from January to May. Also there are three kinds of turtles: Leatherback, Hawksbill, and Green turtle; they can be seen coming in to nest on shore during the months of April to October. Frogfish, seahorses, batfish, flying gurnards, barracudas, eels, tuna, blue chromis also can be found there. The volcanic nature of the island has attracted scuba divers. Dominica offers divers walls, pinnacles and swim-through caves and dive sites for divers of all skills levels such as Five Finger Rock, Dangleben's Pinnacles, Champagne, Rodney's Rock, Point Break, etc.
