Severance Shipwreck
This dive site has the remains of a sailing ship called the Severance. The Severance sank in 1998 and is still almost undamaged. Scuba diving at this spot is interesting because many marine creatures coexist with the shipwreck. The wreck is partially covered with underwater plants and there are always schools of fish congregating around it.
When To Go Diving
Lady Elliot Island has a subtropical climate. The average air temperature is 25-28C/77-82F and the water temperature averages 24-26C/75-78F. The best time to dive is April, when the water temperature is 27C/80F. Summers are usually wet and hot, and winters are dry and cool.
What to see
The Severance shipwreck is a great opportunity for divers to admire underwater flora and fauna. Soft and hard corals which cover the remains and provide food for moray eels, trevallies, sweetlips, pipefish, blennies, stingrays, and wrasses.
