The Sunok dive site, also known as Sunok Point, is located approximately an hour by boat from Padre Burgos. This site became famous because of the regular encounters with whale sharks. These enormous marine creatures follow the plankton and are not guaranteed to be seen here all the time. However, between early November and May, divers have pretty good chances to see whale sharks. Besides these wonderful marine creatures, this dive site is interesting because of the abundance of colorful soft and hard corals, huge fans, and sponges that cover the beautiful, sloping wall. The wall starts at a depth of around 10m/33ft and then gradually drops down to around 45m/148ft. The current can sometimes be strong here, which is why this site is only recommended for experienced divers.

When To Go Diving

This dive site is available for diving throughout the year, because the water temperature (25-30C/77-86F) provides comfortable conditions for year-round diving.

What to see

Besides whale sharks encounter, divers will see plenty of fusiliers, snapper, surgeonfish, scorpionfish, frogfish, and other small fish. Divers will also be fascinated with the abundance of colorful soft and hard corals at this site.
