Wreck
The wreck is a German Kondo I-class patrol boat (62m/203ft long, 16 m/52ft high and 7m/22ft wide) that was built to patrol the river banks between the East and West Germany and later was used by the Armed forces of Malta as a patrol boat and a minesweeper. After being decommissioned, it was turned into an artificial reef in 2007 and now lies on the bottom of Cirkewwa. Divers can go nearly everywhere inside the vessel. The wreck sits upright on its keel in about 35m/114ft of water, while the highest point is located at only 12m/39ft depth.
When To Go Diving
Diving is available year-round. The average depth of the site is around 35m/114ft with water visibility of around 20-40m/65-131ft. The average air temperature is 10-15C/50-59F in the winter and 21-30C/70-83F in the summer. The average water temperature is about 14-17C/58-63F from December through April and 18-25C/65-77F from May through November.
What to see
As it was recently sunk its marine life is not so rich yet, but divers can find such species as squids, flying gurnards and rays. Divers can also explore some interesting sights around the wreck like the machine gun aft, radar tower, cargo holds and bridge.
