When to go to Placencia

Diving is year-round with water temperatures averaging around 30C/85F in summer and about 25C/77F in winter. Period from March to December is considered to be the high diving season. Visibility remains constant year-round: about 30m/98ft. Whale shark season is from April to June, and in May there is an opportunity to see whale sharks along Gladden Spit off the coast of Placencia. Scuba diving in Placencia

Placencia is located in 27km/16mi form North Placencia International Airport. Most of the diving in this region is done from offshore cayes (cays or keys) surrounded by small reefs, usually with gently-sloping drop-offs of about 80-100ft/24-30m. Near Moho Caye, southeast of Placencia, divers may find brilliant red-and-yellow corals and sponges that rarely appear elsewhere in Belize. Two marine reserves off Placencia –the Laughing Bird Caye and the Gladden Spit & Silk Cayes Marine Reserves– are popular snorkeling and diving spots with an abundance of marine life.
