Vaavu Atoll
This channel features a wall and an intermediate reef, that gently slopes downwards on either side of the channel. Alimatha presents excellent night diving opportunities. There is a little drop off on the right side at the beginning of the channel, covered with beautiful hard coral and some soft corals.
When To Go Diving
Diving in Maldives is available all year round, but conditions are best from late December to May. Water temperatures vary from 26C/78F to 29C/84F.
What to see
Divers are pretty much guaranteed to see stingrays, eagle rays, jacks, barracuda, lots of giant trevallies, nurse sharks, white tip and big grey reef sharks and tuna as well as the occasional hammerhead shark.

Alimathaa nightdive
Dive with the nurse sharks snooping their way round the site, the stingrays sweeping over the heads of all divers and the giant trevallies aggressively powering their way through the dark looking for prey, huge moray eels, got out of their hiding places – it truly was a spectacular dive!
