When to go to Scottburgh

Scottburgh is a year-round destination with a mild subtropical climate. The rainy monsoon season lasts from November until March. The high season for diving is between May and September. The average air temperature stays between 19-26С/66-78F and the water temperature between 20-27C/68-80F. The visibility ranges from 5m/16ft to 30m/98ft. The currents vary from low to moderate.


What to see

Cage shark diving expeditions allow divers to safely watch tiger sharks, ragged-tooth sharks, dusky sharks, spinner sharks, and frequently, great white and blacktip sharks practically face-to-face. Also schools of sardines, dolphins, whales, turtles, barracudas, tuna, lots of sea stars, nudibranchs and many other marine species, as well as abundance of corals can be observed in waters around.

Scuba diving in Scottburgh

Scottburgh is a resort town located on the the South Bank of the Mpambanyoni River. King Shaka International Airport is located in 110km from it. Scottburgh is a place popular among fisherman, surfers, snorkelers and divers. Its beaches, well protected by shark nets, are also well known here. The Shoal consists of many caves, overhands, cracks and a number of shipwrecks in which many fish and plenty of corals can be seen.


Most popular dive sites

There are lots of worthy sites near the Aliwal Shoal, which depth varies between 5-30m/16-98ft. Among must see sites are wrecks of Nebo and Produce, the archway Cathedral and Raggie’s Cave. Also, near the Aliwal Shoal, there is a regular expedition, that includes shark viewing, cage shark diving (no diving experience is required) -which are a must have experience.
