Madalena is a calm Portuguese city located on the island of Pico. Horse riding, cycling, surfing, and scuba diving are the short list of outdoor activities. Madalena has crystal-clear water and quiet and pristine sites with rich marine life. Divers can explore large rocks, volcanic formations, caves, rocks, the wreck of a cargo ship and steamship. It may be difficult to get a spot on a dive tour, and most of the dive tours require an advanced-level diver certificate.

Scuba divers will find lots of marvelous dive sites. The most popular sites are Baixa do Buraco, Cachorro, Caldeirinhas, and Caneiro dos Meros. All of these can be reached by boat.
