Mrkanjac Reef
Mrkanjac is a small picturesque island, situated near the entrance to Cavtat Harbour. The waters around Mrkanjac Island are rich in marine life and there is a beautiful coral reef with a steep drop off. The dive is usually performed by descending along the steep wall following the anchoring line. After reaching the maximum possible depth, which depends on the divers' level of experience, there will be a gradual ascend with an opportunity to explore little crevices and many hiding places on the wall where divers can find an amazing variety of marine species.
When To Go Diving
Diving is possible all year round, however, the water temperature in winter drops to chilly 12C/53F. The best season for diving is from May to September with the water temperature of 25C/77F.
What to see
As the island faces the open sea with strong currents, it features an incredible array of marine species, including moray eels, lobsters, electric rays, monkfish, combers, two-banded sea bream, red bream, dentex, picarel and goldfish. Beautiful sea fans, anemones and colorful sponges can also be found on the wall and on the seabed around the island.
