When to go to Loreto

Diving in Loreto is available year-round. Average water temperature is around 68-72F/20-22C and visibility reaches up to 200ft/60 m at some dive sites. February through April is a good time to see humpback and sometimes even blue whales in this area.

 

What to see

The islands are part of the Loreto National Marine Park, a good area for diving and home to over 800 species of marine life. Divers can swim among seals, dolphins and colorful tropical fish.

Scuba diving in Loreto

Loreto offers some of the best island diving to be found in the Sea of Cortez. Loreto International Airport is located there. The islands of Coronado, Carmen, Catalán, Montserrat and Danzante lie just off the coast of Loreto and offer amazing scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities. Around these islands, divers can find rock reefs, seamounts, underwater caves, walls, reefs and wrecks. Some popular dive sites are Punta Coyote, Los Candelleros and Las Galeras.
