Diving in Kandooma
When to go to Kandooma
Diving is available all year- round, though conditions are best during the Northeast Monsoon season from late December to May.
Water temperaturesvary from 26 to 29C/78 to 84F.
Visibility varies from 10-30m/32-98ft, being the best from January to March.
What to see
In the channels around sharks, rays, tunas can be seen, also in clear waters around divers may found colourful corals, sailfish, manta rays, Whale shark, etc.
Scuba diving in Kandooma
Kandooma is an island 13 hectares in area, situated two thirds down the south eastern edge of the South Male Atoll. This island is blessed with white sandy beaches (which occupies around a third of the island), lush tropical greenery with lots of Kandoo tree and clear turquoise waters with a vibrant marine life. It is a great place for scuba diving, snorkelling and surfing. The Kandooma Channel, Kandooma Caves, Kandooma “thila”, also Maafushi Reef make this area one of the republics’s most sought after destinations for divers. Kandooma Thila is a magnificent long thin pinnacle in the middle of a channel (depth 16-30m/52-98ft); a dive site for advanced divers who can deal with current. Here overhangs with draping colourful soft coral, shark cleaning stations will please scuba divers. Current in this area are strong
