When to go to Filitheyo

The best season for diving in these waters is considered to be October through March, when there is a strong constant east current that provides excellent visibility. During the period from April to November, the currents change, and because of this, there is less visibility. December through February is considered the most opportune time to see large numbers of manta rays. The average temperature of the sea water throughout the year is 24-28C/75-82F. What to see The marine fauna frequently seen in the waters of Filitheyo include turtles, lionfish, red snapper, and moray eels.

Scuba diving in Filitheyo

The small triangle-shaped island of Filitheyo is in North Nilandhe Atoll, located in 120km/75mi to the southwest of Malé, the capital of the Maldives. Filitheyo’s natural environment includes generous vegetation, including coconut and sсrewpine trees, and beaches with pure white sand. Despite the island's size, tourists can find small streets with benches to walk through that are between the ranges of bungalows. Aside from lying in the sun on the beaches and swimming in the turquoise water of the lagoon, tourists can enjoy various water sports. Due to the solitary position of the island, the dive sites nearby are untouched with healthy, bright corals and an exceptional diversity of marine life, including big fish. Barrakuda Kandu and Filitheyo Outside are deep dive sites located in the atoll channels where forceful currents often appear, and are known for common sightings of sharks, turtles, and rays. Out of the dive sites located inside the lagoon, Coral City and Repeaters Paradise are easy dives with beautiful corals and diverse species of small fish.
