RECOMMENDED AIRPORT
Dhiggiri is a tropical paradise island, surrounded by endless, crystal-clear waters and beautiful white-sand beaches. The island is approximately 200m/656ft long and up to 50m/164ft wide. It is located on the northern end of the Felidhu Atoll. Dhiggiri can be reached in just 90 minutes by speed boat from the international airport and the capital island of Malé. This island is the perfect destination for beginners and experienced divers alike. Dhiggiri has a marvelous lagoon with over 70 species of corals and plenty of fish. There is a reef round the island, which is ideal, but for some reason the coral has not grown back well. Nevertheless, the fish numbers are good, because the island sits in the middle of a fast-moving channel. Divers can expect to see huge schools of jacks, sharks, barracudas, tuna, and turtles (green turtles do nest on the island). Beautiful Dhiggiri is close to a wide selection of dive sites in Maldives, some of them protected areas included in lists of the best dive sites in the world. With multicolored fish, coral gardens, and plenty of marine life, this truly is a dream destination. Fulidhu, the closest of the five fishing islands in the area, is just 30 minutes away by dhoni (the local boat) – ideal for an exciting diving. There are two popular dive sites: Dhiggiri Kandu (for experienced divers) and Dhiggiri House Reef (for novice divers).
