Aqaba is Jordan's only coastal city, located on the Gulf of Aqaba on the extreme south of the country, at the northeastern tip of the Red Sea. Aqaba Airport is located here. Aqaba is famous for its warm, crystal clear waters and rich marine life. Coral gardens lining the coastlines host more than 1,000 species of fish, among them are moray eels, lionfish, pipefish, blue spotted stingrays, sardines, snappers, frogfish, napoleonfish, octopus, unicorn fish, barracuda, blue tang, fusiliers and others. There are over 20 main diving sites in Aqaba and most of them are located in the Aqaba Marine Park. Each site features a different landscape, varying from slopes to drop-off and canyons completely covered with colorful corals. Most of the sites are suitable for divers of all levels of experience, although some are recommended for advanced divers only. Aqaba's coral reefs can be easily accessed right from the shore. The best sites in the area include Eel Garden, Cedar Pride, King Abdallah reef and Japanese Garden. Cedar Pride wreck, which was scuttled for divers in 1985, is perhaps the most famous dive site in the area and is suitable for all divers. Its depth ranges between 7-26m/22-85ft. While on this dive participants have a chance to pass under the hull of the ship which lies across two reefs.
