Marciana Marina is a town and commune in the province of Livorno (administrative region of Tuscany, Italy), and is one of the most important towns on Elba Island. Elba Airport is located in 10 km from it. Marciana Marinat is situated at sea level. It has a small marina (Circolo della Vela Marciana Marina), two small beaches and an old Torre Medicea, built to protect the city in the past from the frequent pirate invasion. Some incredible diving can be done off the coast of Marciana Marina. The best dive sites are Punta della Zanca, Scogliafina, Punta della Madonna, Formiche della Zanca, Cote Piane and Wreck of Pomonte. Punta della Madonna is teeming with life and attracts divers who have interest in low light creatures like prawns and slipper lobsters. Also there are many red apogon imberbis, galathea and stenopus spinosus crayfish known for their long antennas. Divers will need a flashlight to do this dive. Using the light rays penetrating the darkness divers can spot a great variety of sea fauna concentrated around this cliff. The average depth of the site is around 17m/59ft. The maximum depth is around 30m/98ft. This dive site can be reached in just a few minutes by boat from the port of Marciana Marina and is suitable for experienced divers. One of the finest dive sites on the northern coast of the Island of Elba is Formiche della Zanca. It features a group of emerging rocks, the underwater part of which is an amazingly scenic seabed with various routes for the diver to choose from. Conger-eels, shade fish, schools of anthias, damselfish, lobsters, schools of saddle breams, bogues and the occasional amberjacks can be seen there. The average depth of the site is 13m/43ft and the maximum depth is 24m/79ft. It is a boat dive suitable for advanced divers.
