When to go to Bau-Bau

Air and water temperatures stay almost the same throughout a year in Bau-Bau – 28-31C/ 82-87F. However, the most advisable period for diving in the area is from April to October. In the other months the destination experiences heavy rainfall and strong winds. Сurrents that reach 1-2 knots. Average visibility is around 20m/65ft.


What to see
Multiple marine species are to be observed while diving in Bau-Bau waters. Divers can spot octopi, lobsters, crabs, turtles, tuna, napoleonfish, eagle rays, barracuda and reef sharks.

Scuba diving in Bau-Bau

Bau-Bau is a nature’s cradle on Buton Island, reachable by ships, which board at Port Murhum. The first place to visit here is Buton Fort Palace with interesting heritage exhibits on display. Tourists should also definitely stay in this area to explore local natural beauties such as Kolema Hill, which opens a great view on a town, and Tirta Rimba Waterfall, which is perfectly hidden in the heart of the forest. Beaches in Bau-Bau are its genuine peculiarity. The most striking one – Nirwana Beach, that charm every traveler. Scuba diving in Bau-Bau becomes a real adventure for everyone. Several dive sites attract many divers to the destination. Diving in Bau-Bau is represented by interesting marine creatures and spectacular views perfect for underwater photography. Divers can explore endless coral reefs, ridges, ledges, drop-offs, swim-throughs and caves in rocks, which usually shelter sharks. Numerous slopes and plateaus are densely covered with various corals and sea flowers. Lots of divers also come to Bau-Bau to start their liveaboard trip. All the sites are accessible by boat and advisable for divers of different levels. Local diving tours usually start at Bau-Bau, pass the Siompu Island, Pasarwajo, Hoga Island, Salt Water Cave and Blue Hole and end at Karang Kapota. Also Pantai Nirwana, Pulau Sawa, Mari Mabuk and Table Coral City can be explored while diving around Bau-Bau.
